What is the Difference Between Hair Loss Wigs,
Medical Wigs, Alopecia Wigs, Cancer Wigs and Cranial Prosthesis?

The
terms are interchangeable. When we refer to: hair loss wigs, medical wigs, alopecia
wigs, cancer wigs and cranial prosthesis they are one and the same. They all refer to
medical grade wigs and are just different terminology for the same product. Most
medical insurance companies, however, require you to
classify the hair replacement wig as a cranial prosthesis in order for the unit
to be a covered item. You can call the customer
service number that is listed on your insurance card to determine whether or not
they cover medical wigs. We
will help you with this step if needed and will provide whatever information
your insurance carrier needs to cover the cost of your new hair loss wig.

Machine-Made
Wigs vs. Hand-Made Wigs

Machine-made
lace wigs are usually less expensive than hand-made ones.
In machine-made wigs the hair fibers are machine sewn onto a “weft” in a
fixed pattern. The wefts are then assembled together on an open net
base. Machine-made wigs offer limited versatility as the wefts
prevent parting and pulling the hair up. Also, they are less realistic as you
can see the wefts when the wind blows.  Hand-made lace wigs involve hand knotting
each strand of hair on a net base or hand
inserting into a custom molded base. Hand construction methods
usually provide a more random and natural appearance. The process is tedious
and very labor intensive. On some hairpieces, there are over 140,000
individual hair shafts that need to be inserted which is why these
type of wigs are more expensive than machine made wigs. Hand made wigs offer the
most natural look and have unlimited parting and styling versatility as there
are no wefts to contend with. ALL of our hair
replacement lace wigs are hand-made.
